IN THE END, WE ARE ALL SELFISH.

Since the unofficial agreement between Raila and Ruto to form an "inclusive broad-based" government, I have seen citizens and those who belong to the political class call out the ODM party for betrayal.

Others have even gone to the extent of saying that the party rode on the Gen Z protests and brokered a power-sharing deal.

I want to say that this is "normal" in Kenya where politicians reap where they never planted and it has been like this since independence.

When the freedom fighters were dealing with the colonialists to grant us independence,  notable figures led the struggle. Dedan Kimathi led his Mau Mau team in war against the British government and was even captured and executed in a gruesome manner leaving behind a widow who died last year, languishing in poverty.

When the British saw that they were losing the battle, they offered Jaramogi Oginga Odinga a chance to form the government, but refused by saying "Uhuru na Kenyatta". He believed that some people deserved to lead the country.
Later, Kenyatta was released, and the government was formed. This government lacked the image most people expected. There were no Kapenguria six members and even the real freedom fighters died in abject poverty.

At one point Kenyatta confronted Bildad Kagia in Langata because he was not as rich as other politicians.
It's without a doubt to say that Kenyatta had little impact during the clamor for independence since he was away and when he came back, he was arrested and some claim that he was the one who betrayed Kimathi after being promised power.

Then came the second liberation movement led by Kenneth Matiba, Martin Shikuku and Raila Odinga. These guys suffered under the Nyayo regime as they fought for multiparty system. Shikuku died under unclear circumstances while Raila was tortured in Nyayo chambers for close to 7 years.

Matiba, on the other hand, contracted illnesses while in custody and his business suffered greatly. By the time of his death, he was poor and bitter. The person who benefited from all this was Mwai Kibaki, who formed the immediate government after Moi's regime. Kibaki never took part in the struggle but was the first beneficiary.

Then came the change of constitution movement led by Raila Odinga. This movement wanted Kenya to have a new constitution to benefit the people.
People went for a referendum in 2010 and we got a new constitution.
One of the reasons why we wanted this change was to avoid what happened in 2008 when Kibaki was declared the winner and even swore in himself at night. Once again, Uhuru Kenyatta was the first beneficiary despite being on the opposing side.

When you go to social media space, you will realize that most people are pushing the Gen Z narrative for fame. Kasmuel McOure for example has been chasing clout by assuming the role of the leader of this Gen Z, he has benefited by being invited for media interviews where the only thing he can be remembered for is just good English. I even heard that he wants to vie for an elective post in 2027.

Others have been praising Kalonzo Musyoka for refusing to have a dialogue with Ruto. The Kalonzo I know is the most selfish politician in Kenya. He likes to be given without shedding any sweat. Remember that his son Kennedy Kale is at the EALA. The only reason Kalonzo is supporting this Gen Z movement is because he wants to use them cum 2027 and has no interest in whatever they are fighting for.

Babu Owino and Gathoni Wamuchomba are also the same. They want to maintain relevance and boost their political portfolio by feigning support for Gen Zs.

I even saw Peter Salasya slamming ODM for betraying the people. He said that the country needed young people to rule. Now, we all saw how Salasya slapped MCA at a gathering and even threatened to slap students. Currently, he has a case going on where he refused to pay debts.

These are the guys riding on the Gen Z wave. If they mean business, they should be at the forefront of these protests instead of making announcements on TikTok.
So for those who have been saying that they feel like they have been betrayed, it's historical and somehow Raila always finds a way to redeem himself. What we need is to find a way to redeem the whole country.

Instead of calling themseleves leaderless, they should be serious and have a sit down with Ruto or else others will benefit from their struggle.
