LET'S DO SOMETHING ON THE POST OF DEPUTY PRESIDENT.


Time has come where we need to have a conclusive discussion about the Office of the Deputy President in Kenya. The post is slowly losing it's meaning.


Over the last ten years, this office has been there just for show despite the constitution being clear that the Deputy President can perform all the roles of the president in absentia. Instead of us treating the office the same way we treat the office of the president, we only seem to need this post only when vying for presidency and  want support from another tribe that has numbers.


In fact ,this post has always been tribal where the tribe with good number of votes is brought on board. Something needs to be done.


Listening to the DP Rigathi Gachagua speaking, I came to realize that there is no need to to tie the post to the presidential candidate. He said that he has a weaknesses of loving his people or rather watu ya murima .


The post was never meant to be tribal .

At the same time, the holders of this office have been always been sidelined by their bosses. Uhuru Kenyatta sidelined Ruto and Ruto has also sidelined Gachagua in making key This results to confrontations of the two.


We need to make some constitutional changes where the DP will have distinctive role aside from functions performed by the president in absentia.The DP should either be given a powerful ministry or be the automatic head of the Capital City of Nairobi and abolish the governor post of the county.


We also need to give freedom to the president to change their deputies at will without those funny impeached pranks. Let's treat their appointment the same way we do with Cabinet Secretaries. This will allow the government to be flexible. 

Let's give the President the option of firing their deputies . This is because of difference in agenda of these two. The deputy should help the president to execute the manifesto.

Or we can also introduce an option of having the runners up in the general elections as the Deputy President so as to make each political divide feel ownership of the government.


As we reconstitute a new IEBC, let's also think about this.

 WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF GEN ZS. Yesterday's protests sent out warnings to the tribal kingpins who have been using tribes as a way to lead that come 2027 things will be different.  WHY ODM IS JOINING RUTO TO SURVIVE. First, ODM was a national party, with 8 tribal representatives from 8 now scrapped provinces.
